“The unforeseen cost, of course, is that those extra features hurt usability. ...”
– RODERICK MCMULLEN And that goes for everything. The packaging is a part of the user experience, the customer service is a part of the user experience, the instructions are a part of the user experience, the purchasing, and of course, using the product is a part of the user experience. It’s not a...

The Digital Living Room: Sony's new CEO gets UX... →
diglr: From the Wall Street Journal: New Sony CEO Kazuo Hirai described his strategic goal as teaching the company’s 168,000 employees that past successes in manufacturing must be replaced by selling the harder to quantify ‘user experience’. The world has moved on, he said, “We can’t just continue to…

“A wealth of information creates a poverty of attention.”
– Herbert Simon 1978 Nobel Prize winner in Economics. I love this quote. In our world of information overload, this quote explains the reason to have a clear message and good visual hierarchy in any product design today.  (via gregmelander)

A Brief Rant on the Future of Interaction Design →
weloveux: Incredibly insightful article, which I’d have to say I agree with for the most part. As a more “illustrative” type of artist, I have personally despised the “glassy” feel the article speaks of, compared to something as subtle as the grip of a pencil drawing against a paper, both with textures you can “feel”.  I was however disappointed in the lack of any real “solutions” to the issue....

Mobile Patterns →
hugocf: Design patterns are repeatable solutions to problems. Some of the screens you see on this site are good solutions – but there is a lot of variance in the mobile design world. Other Pattern Sites mentioned: iOS focus Pttrns has big screenshots and a good variety of patterns. (…) Mobile-patterns tends to focus on social patterns. (…) Android focus Android Interaction Patterns has fewer...

Robot Panda: Understanding UI Design →
robotpanda: I love Scott McCloud’s Understanding Comics! I read it a few years ago for a class, and I still think about it from time to time. I came across this UX Mag article about realism in UI design, and it references McCloud’s book. Symbols and icons are ubiquitous in web design, but has anyone ever stopped to think about what they mean to the average user? The point being made here is that...

weloveux: We’re at the middle point of a big shift, going from creating mobile-specific versions of websites or web apps to going full responsive. Long are the days where mobile users where a small percentage of the browser share, and it’s only going to keep growing from here. What is responsive…
